Default Guild Wars Is A Rather Cold o.O

While by no means is everyone I have met cold, it just seems to me a lot of people are o.O I mean I guess this is a trend in online gaming, but today I decided I would give PvP a chance... built my character... and well entered the arena. Out of habit, lol, I type in Mo/E LFG.... lolz, well I'm just used to typing that in so much(thank you crappy goruping system), and I get this spew of hate mail o.O Beat it n00b, come back when you know how to play, OMFG he is so n00bish... I mean wtf o.O A mistake yes, but I they jabbered about this forever (longer than a minutes.... and who knows how much after I joined the battle) o.O This isn't the first time. Some guy was selling a sword, so I msg him saying hey how much, well it was 500gp and I was poor, so I told him no thanks. I get back so why tf are you msging me if you cant afford it o.O Then we have missions, the guys dies, but refuses to leave, because he wants teh mission... but instead of being supportive, he jabbers about how n00bish we are(yes he ran off and died)... and when we finally do die, he goes on and on and on until I logged off o.O Anyone share similar experience, or should I beat it and come back when I learn how to play :P

These kind of people always exist, sadly. You can find them everywhere, even under the darkest rock in the furthest corner of Tyria, one will be waiting to jump out at you and yell at you. But that is how the world of online gaming works.

Don't get discouraged, there still are nice people out there. They're just hard to find. You just need to try your best to avoid the jerks until you learn the tricks of the trade, and get into the swing of things. We all started out at one point or another, so everyone that was making fun of you made the same mistakes at one time.

If you can't seem to find any nice people, you can always message me ingame and I'll party with you if I'm not busy.

heh we should start up a "nice person directory" much like the healing monk census

Char Names :
Tanik Roshar
Tanik Katonia

Anyways so im not totally offtopic here, once during a mission the entire team died, aside from a single W/Mo who was totally lost and seperated from the group, he has resurrect and when he finally caught up to us(he was spouting supportive talk the entire way saying he could save us and we could still finish the mission) he comes to res our actual monk, and just before res finishes he cancels says "lol you noobs, you all died" and quits... it baffles me to think about him taking 5 minutes to find us just to pretend res us and quit.. i dont think ill ever understand that scene.

Yeah just don't pay attention to them, I personally have many chat channels closed off-during play. You know though, you're their monk, you SHOULD'VE left, then they'd see the mistake in their actions. We'll see how n00bish they think you are when they go in there head-on charging the opposing team, only to realize...no monk...? DAMNIT!

So yeah, they're out there, but don't let it get to you.

If you were to say that in my PvP group, I'd just respond with something like

"Haha, this is PvP mate. You've got yer group." Or something simple like that.

I've done my stupid things in the past, I remember one time I'd just woke up on my floor at 4:00am, and I got in-game for a few minutes and had no idea what the hell was going on. What day it was, when I feel asleep, I was confused as hell. I walked around and saw some guy go

"Selling SILVER dye, pst with preferred price"

And I looked at it blankly for a few seconds, then stated...in all-chat, that he'd spelled "past" wrong. Not realizing that the word in itself wouldn't have made any sense at all in the context...and what it was...and you can bet I recieved a lot of "god you ----in' n00b", "u blo", "hahaha IDIOT".

Things like that...yeah, I felt dumb. But hey, give me a break 'eh? If anyone's ever woke up on their floor at 4:00am after having passed out for God knows how long, you know how screwed up yer head can be.

Rude people exist...everywhere. Just ignore 'em though, there's a lot of good people as well mate.

As most have stated here folk like that are in every online game.
The best solution I have is to take their responses with a grain of salt, realizing they have insecurity issues and turn off the local chat
Keep a list of friends you play with or build them with folk you've had good experiences with in game and ignore the folk who behave badly.
I too travel most times with henchmen, it's not because other players may be 'noobs' but because some of them lack character to work well in a group environment.
Your milage may vary.

Ironically enough I've had only one bad group so far and I quickly ditched them. I guess I have an uncanny ability to not get involved with these groups. I've kept going back to people I have played with or that seem somewhat intelligent. I just ascended last night and logged a lot of gameplay time (70+ hrs), so I'll just say that I'm fortunate in this case so far.

My suggestion is when you find a good person, ask him or her what guild they belong to and hang around them for a while. If you gel with the guild, join up. Unlike real life, people can be who they truly are because there are no consequences (or at least very little) to their behavoir. You get to see the really bad, but at the same time you get to meet some really good people as well. If you find a good guild, it can make putting up with the rude and obnoxious well worth it.

Unfortunately this has been talked about inside and out. The first thread we discussed players like this was Abusive Arrogant Intolerable Players or something (AAIP). It is something we must deal with when playing online games especially in MMORPG's. The only thing you can do about players like this is remembering their name, making sure you never play with them, and let your guild members know what kind of player that person is. That person is more than likely to never change no matter what you do. Spooky said in the AAIP thread something along the lines of you can't change people who don't want to changed themselves. It's just like real life but these people try to feel superior in online games and boost themselves up by acting that way.

Fortunately for us we do have some options as I said above, second option is if you can't find a member use a henchmen. Better to have a henchmen than playing with someone who will insult the group because something goes wrong or you make too many faces in a post.

To be honest, I haven't encountered much of this while playing in GW. Coming from mostly an FPS/RTS genre of play, though, the abusive and obnoxious people are a lot worse there than anything described here thus far so I might just have developed a thicker skin, I suppose. There was one guy in a PvP match in Ascalon Arena who shouted at all his non-monk allies and called them 'idiots' for not resurrecting him. Seeing as he died first by simply running into the centre of the enemy line on his own, and the monk on our team died shortly after while desperately trying to keep him alive, I can't say I blame anyone for leaving him on the floor.

Can't agree more. I'm locking this thread as it is more than redundant with 1344 threads in this board.
